Item 8 of the Chief's Criteria for being recognized as a Major Branch of the Clan states:-
"It must be shown that five (5) members of the Branch have acquired Arms from the Lord Lyon King of Arms of Scotland as descendants of the “Founding Ancestor” of the Branch."
Someone who has acquired arms is known as an Armiger and is said to be armigerous. Brian Larry Urquhart from our branch is in the process of applying for arms "for and in memory of James Urquhart of the River Thames", with a suitable difference added which would identify his position in the branch as a descendant of James Urquhart. Some of Brian's brothers have also expressed interest. Female descendants born with the Urquhart name may also apply.
As Bard and Sennachie of Clan Urquhart, Robert Jeffrey Urquhart was granted arms by Lyon Court which were Matriculated : Court of the Lord Lyon, 25th January 2001. Lyon Register Volume 82 folio 81. The shield is shown below.
