AN INVITATION FROM OUR CHIEF TO JOIN

the Clan Urquhart Association

The CLAN URQUHART ASSOCIATION Clan Urquhart is a worldwide family made up of people from many different backgrounds who, despite their diversity, view themselves as one, and proudly call themselves “Urquharts.” Having an ancient heritage which dates back over seven hundred years in the Scottish Highlands, the Clan has maintained its unique identity while spreading from Glen Urquhart and Cromarty to other sections of Scotland and the British Isles; and thence, through the wide migration of Scots over the centuries, to many corners of the world. The essence of Scottish clanship is family unity which transcends all divisions; and the spiritual attachment which clan members have to their clan and its heritage and to Scotland and the Scots heritage. This is what Clan Urquhart is all about. This is why the Clan is important. This is why it has an Association. Organized in 1976, the Clan Urquhart Association exists for the purpose of cultivating a spirit of kinship among Urquharts and descendants of Urquharts. Deriving its authority from the Chief of the Clan, it serves as the primary agency through which Urquharts around the world maintain active contact with their Clan. The Association has three major branches, one in the United Kingdom, one in North America, and one in Australia and New Zealand. Through these three branches, over nine hundred Urquharts and Urquhart descendants have come to know more fully what it means to be an Urquhart. As we enter the Twenty-first Century, the Clan Urquhart Association is  reaching out to Urquharts and Urquhart descendants throughout the world; and especially to the descendants of James Urquhart who appear in the latest book published by our Sennachie, in an effort to attract many new members to the Association. This involves you, your children, your brothers and sisters, your cousins, and your friends. The Association wants everyone of you to become members. As Chief of Clan Urquhart, I am very pleased with the great interest which is being taken in Clan Urquhart; and I would like to take this opportunity to extend a personal invitation to the descendants of James Urquhart of the River Thames and Genevieve Drouillard to rally loyally to the support of our Clan by joining the Clan Urquhart Association. The participation of everyone is needed and very much desired. You will never know what a wonderful thing it is to be an Urquhart until you join your fellow Urquharts in the active life of the Clan by being a member of the worldwide Clan Urquhart Association. Join today. Your membership will strengthen your Clan; and you will demonstrate to the world the great value which you place on being an Urquhart or descended from an Urquhart. A warm welcome awaits you in the Association; and you can be assured that you will have many pleasant opportunities to grow in knowledge and appreciation of the great value of active membership in Clan Urquhart. The Clan Urquhart Association The Clan Urquhart Association is a worldwide organization founded for the purpose of cultivating a spirit of kinship among Urquharts and descendants of Urquharts; and in order to serve as the agency through which Urquharts maintain contact with their Clan. The Association is dedicated to preserving the heritage and promoting the interests of Clan Urquhart. Major branches have been organized in Great Britain and in the North America and Australia and New Zealand. Other branches may be established, as needed with the approval of the Chief of Clan Urquhart. Each branch is self supporting in finances and organization; and has a President as officer.
